His Dark Heart is the first book in the Ashes to Dust duology. It is a dark romance that contains a lot of sensitive subjects. The story takes place a few years before the main timeline of Wild Card (Kings & Queens #1), but the books can be read in either order.
Also, while the book does take place during senior year of high school, both main characters are 18. That said, some of them (*ahem* Asher) are very morally gray and make questionable choices.
